OKAY! Since shutting down Miami with his live show a few weeks back, some could say Kodak felt it was only right to release this project for us. The production on this tape alone is something crazy, credit feature names like London on Da Track, Murda Beatz and Frank Dukes, as well as frequent Kodak collaborators like Ben Billions (“Lockjaw,” “Day for Day”), Skip on Da Beat (“Skrt,” “Young Prodigy”), C-Clip Beatz (“Gave It All I Got,” “My Cousin”) and Dyryk (“First Day Out,” “Reminiscing”). The nineteen song project features Offset from Migos, fellow Florida rapper XXXtentaction and his Sniper Gang affiliates John Wick and Jackboy for a remix to the Geto Boys classic “My Mind Playing Tricks On Me.” Much of the production here is established by Kodak’s home production team, typically led by Ben Billions, but featuring associates like Rex Kudo and Dyryk who manage to have perfected the style that seems to inspire Kodak the most. Whether it’s the mournful strings on “Change My Ways,” the James Ferraro-like office ambiance touches on “First Love,” or the plaintive guitar loop on “Pride,” they truly manage to understand how to get Kodak at his strongest in a way some have struggled with. Overall, Project Baby 2 is about as complex and confounding as the man who recorded it.
